The SOAR (Student Orientation Advisement Registration) program is an extremely informative and fun-filled one-day program for new SIUC students and their families.
During SOAR you will:
- Become more familiar with Southern’s campus and the Carbondale community
- Meet other new and current Salukis
- Register for classes
- Meet with an Academic Advisor
- Meet with representatives from your academic college
- Interact with faculty and staff
- Learn about academic expectations
- Take a campus and/or residence hall tour
- Learn about opportunities for involvement, such as Registered Student Organizations and Greek Life
- Learn about the support services and resources in place to help you succeed at Southern
- Reserve textbooks
- Meet one-on-one with a Financial Aid counselor
- Wrap up any loose ends with Immunizations, Parking, Information Technology, etc.
By the time the student has completed SOAR, they should be fully prepared to make a successful transition to life at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and excited to become a Saluki!
So, how do I sign up? To sign up for SOAR, click here. After signing up, students will receive their confirmation packet in the mail within two weeks. If after signing up, you must change or cancel your SOAR date, please contact New Student Programs at (618) 453-1000. Please keep in mind that the SOAR fee is nonrefundable.
